Urban ArtWorks
Power Through Public Art
This fundraising film traces the evolution of Urban ArtWorks from its mid-1990s origins as a localized effort to reclaim Seattle’s SoDo corridor into a premier local nonprofit dedicated to social change through public art. The narrative documents the organization's three-decade transition from a cleanup initiative for court-involved youth into a sophisticated mural arts program that now defines the visual identity of the SoDo Track. By centering its mission on King County youth facing systemic barriers, including low-income, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ artists, the film illustrates how the program provides a professional platform where creative agency is realized. Moving beyond the traditional concept of "empowerment," the piece highlights how Urban ArtWorks “opens doors for young people to express the power they already possess, fostering leadership and community healing while proving that systemic barriers can be dismantled one wall at a time”.
“The video they created is incredible and so moving. I sincerely appreciate Tideway Creative for handling our story with care. They not only took the time to learn about our organization, but to also understand the essence of who we are and why we do this work.
