Trust for Public Land

The Butte Falls Community Forest

In this environmental impact film, we explore the vital transformation of Butte Falls, Oregon, from a declining timber town into a model of community-led conservation and wildfire resilience. By partnering with the Trust for Public Land, the town successfully acquired 430 acres of surrounding forest to create a "green buffer" against catastrophic wildfires. a mission made urgent by the narrow escape of the South Obenchain Fire. The narrative highlights a strategic shift in land management, where the community moves away from one-time timber harvests in favor of an ecotourism model that "sells the tree over and over again." By prioritizing forest health and public access, Butte Falls demonstrates a future where ecology and economy are inextricably linked, fostering a resilient landscape where the town’s roots, like those of the forest, are locked together for long-term strength and stability.
