Seattle Made

We Are Seattle Made Campaign

This 60-second sizzle reel serves as the high-energy introduction to the Seattle Made campaign, a series of short vignettes celebrating the makers, innovators, and visionaries who define the city’s creative economy. From the ethical "bean-to-bar" mission of Theo Chocolate and the indigenous-led craftsmanship of Eighth Generation, to the precision engineering of Subsonic Skateboards and the sustainable artistry of Moo-Young, this 60-second reel weaves together the common threads of heritage, grit, and community. Setting the stage for a deeper look at the people who show up every day to build, dye, carve, and craft the future of Seattle.

Eighth Generation

We kick off our look at the Seattle Made series with a spotlight on Eighth Generation, a Pike Place Market mainstay that has reclaimed the narrative of Native art. Founded by Nooksack artist Louie Gong, the business moves beyond "Native-inspired" to 100% Native-designed originals. The vignette highlights how their Seattle studio utilizes contemporary technology to evolve traditional materials while supporting a nationwide network of indigenous artists. By centering on their mission to "decolonize the marketplace," the story illustrates how the Seattle Made community allows a small, dedicated team to sustain a globally impactful, values-driven brand.

Theo Chocolate

Next in the series is a look at Theo Chocolate, the first certified organic, fair-trade, bean-to-bar chocolate maker in the United States. Based in Fremont, Theo crafts every product from scratch, maintaining a transparent supply chain that ensures everyone, from the cocoa farmers to the Seattle tour guides are paid a living wage. The vignette explores the "ripple effect" of conscious consumerism, challenging the industry standard by proving that a luxury item tastes better when it’s made ethically. By highlighting their deep roots in the city, the narrative shows how the support of "shop local" advocates allows Theo to keep its entire production, design, and packaging process proudly Seattle Made.

Subsonic Skateboards

The series continues with a look at Subsonic Skateboards, a custom board builder that has been shipping one-of-a-kind designs worldwide since 1999. The video captures the tight-knit team of family and friends who prioritize longevity and sustainability–building products designed to "live the longest life" possible. By championing the idea that small employers are the lifeblood of a neighborhood, this story illustrates how Subsonic contributes to the local safety net by staying deeply rooted in the Seattle Made community.

Moo-Young

The final vignette in our series spotlights Moo-Young, an independent shop and "experiment" located in the heart of Capitol Hill's Chop House Row. Founder and maker Francine Moo-Young fuses leather-craft with the Japanese dyeing technique of shibori, embracing the philosophy of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in "perfect imperfections." The video delves into her deep-seated commitment to "waste not, want not," a mantra inherited from her grandmother that guides her use of leather remnants and sustainable practices. As an immigrant entrepreneur, Francine reflects on the unique synergy of Seattle’s maker community, illustrating how the city’s rare abundance of small businesses provides the perfect ecosystem for artists to dream and build.
