Northwest Harvest
A Legacy of Equity About Us Video
This "About Us" profile retraces Northwest Harvest’s journey from its 1967 roots as a civil rights initiative to its current role as a statewide leader in food justice. By focusing on the systemic disparities that drive hunger—rather than just a lack of food—the organization serves as a vital link between distribution hubs in Spokane, Yakima, and Auburn. This look at their history and mission highlights a dedicated effort to "reset" the regional food system, moving beyond simple charity toward a future of true equity.
Community Markets
This dedicated segment focuses on Northwest Harvest’s Community Markets. By blending core moments from the "About Us" video from above with additional interview footage from the same production, the edit illustrates the transformation of a high-volume distribution model to a high-choice shopping experience. Across locations in Seattle and Yakima, these markets are designed to honor the agency of every neighbor, providing fresh produce and culturally relevant staples in a dignified, community-focused shopping environment.
The BIPOC Market Voucher Program
In a direct response to the economic disparities exposed by the pandemic, Northwest Harvest launched the BIPOC Market Voucher Program to support underrepresented food system businesses. This pilot initiative creates a vital connection between Washington State residents and a diverse range of local producers—including community staples like Seattle’s Sharif Grocery & Halal. By providing vouchers for culturally relevant foods, the program ensures that equitable food access also strengthens the BIPOC-owned businesses that serve as essential hubs within the regional food system.
